Our teachers use a variety of strategies to assess each student's work. This includes observing their work in class and looking closely at the work they produce throughout the year.
Teachers also assess each student's achievements based on the outcomes of the syllabus of each course.
A written report is sent home twice a year to provide feedback about student achievement and performance against the syllabus outcomes.
We provide detailed information to students about what is expected from them throughout the year and how their work will be assessed.
Years 7-10 students receive an assessment handbook at the start of term 1. This contains important information, such as which outcomes will be assessed and when assessment tasks will take place.
The Year 8 assessment handbook 2023 contains the following important information:
- the Assessment Policy and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- a Personal Assessment Calendar so students can map out when their assessment tasks are taking place. This should help them to plan their study time, as well as take responsibility for their learning so they can hand their assessment tasks in on time.
- School Examination Procedures that apply to all formal examinations and includes those held during formal examination weeks as well as those held in classrooms.
Examination Procedures
Students need to familiarise themselves with our school examination procedures (pdf 94 KB). These procedures apply to all formal examination and includes those held during formal examination weeks as well as those held in classrooms.
Illness/misadventure
You may lodge an illness/misadventure appeal (pdf 22 KB) if you believe that circumstances occuring immediately prior to or during an assessment task affected your performance.
You can use the assessment task scenario matrix (pdf 96 KB) to determine what course of action should be taken if you encounter any difficulties with assessment tasks.
Parent/carer - teacher - student meetings
Parents/carers will have the opportunity to discuss their child's progress at parent-teacher-student meetings during the year. However, if there are any issues you wish to discuss with your child's teacher, please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
